QXV DM45020, Dunaskin, 25th September 2016
The passenger accommodation on 25th September was inspection saloon DM45020, making its first ever appearance on this duty. Very nice it was, too, and I would imagine an improvement on the brake van used previously.

NCB 10 (Andrew Barclay 2244/1947) propelling the inspection saloon away from the platform on 25th September. The locomotive in the background is Andrew Barclay 1614 of 1918. This and the other loco not far behind it, Andrew Barclay 2358/1954 were photographed from the train but the shots are not good enough to be included here.
Andrew Barclay 1952/1928, Dunaskin, 25th September 2016
The main reason for the visit was this: Andrew Barclay 1952 of 1928, an 0-4-0 fireless. It was the first time I have seen a working fireless, and the same clearly went for most of the visitors on 25th September. Understandably the volunteers at Dunaskin are very proud of this little locomotive. I was almost taken by surprise on this first run. The fireless was behind No 10 which was in the platform. In very short order two volunteers got into the cab, released the brake, rang the bell and away it went. No fuss, no bother, hardly any noise. Splendid.

I make no apology for putting too many photos of this loco on here. Here it is as it sets off on it's first demonstration run of the day. I was told that it normally runs with a gunpowder van, but due to the shunting involved in getting the inspection saloon out the brake van was used instead.
Andrew Barclay 1952/1928, Dunaskin, 25th September 2016
Another view of the fireless, this time later in the day and this time at the platform. I was also told that fully charging the loco with steam takes about 4 hours from No 10, whereas in industry it might have been as little as 20 minutes. Whatever, it is a fabulous little loco and I need to see it again (and again).

And one last shot of the passenger train with NCB No 10 at the helm and another good load of passengers boarding.
Andrew Barclay 347/1941, Dunaskin, 25th September 2016
Some of the shunting on the morning of 25th September was carried out by Powfoot No 1 (Andrew Barclay 347 of 1941), an 0-4-0 diesel mechanical loco which had recently had a repaint.
Sentinel 10012/1959, Dunaskin, 25th September 2016
The other diesel loco in regular use at Dunaskin is Sentinel 10012/1959, a 4w diesel hydraulic. On 25th September it was in the loco shed.
Smiths of Rodley Steam Crane, Dunaskin, 25th September 2016
A steam crane buitl by Smith's of Rodley was also on view. I have no further info about this crane at the moment.
North British 27644/1959, Dunaskin, 25th September 2016
Several locos were on display between the station and the site shop & museum. First of these to be photographed by me was North British 27644 of 1959, an 0-4-0 diesel hydraulic which formerly worked for Tees Storage and was awaiting repair.

Andrew Barclay 399/1959, Dunaskin, 25th September 2016
The middle one of the three diesels in this line was Andrew Barclay 399 of 1959, apparently in working order but needing a bit of attention to the bodywork.
Ruston Hornsby 421697/1959,Dunaskin, 25th September 2016
If I have it right this one is Ruston Hornsby 421697, again built in 1959.
Andrew Barclay 2260/1949, Dunaskin, 25th September 2016
A little bit further on was NCB Fife Area No 23. Like all the steam locos on site this was built by Andrew Barclay of Kilmarnock, being works number 2260 of 1949.

Andrew Barclay 1296/1912, Dunaskin, 25th September 2016
This is the remains of Andrew Barclay 1296 at Dunaskin, 25th September. The rest of the loco was stolen by metal thieves at the ARPG's previous home :(
Andrew Barclay 1116/1910, Dunaskin, 25th September 2016
The oldest locomotive on site was Andrew Barclay 1116 of 1910, currently residing in the museum, a building which was originally the locomotive shed of the iron works
Hunslet 8816/1981, Dunaskin, 25th September 2016
The only narrow gauge loco included in this collection is Hunslet 8816 of 1981, a 3ft gauge 4w DH from Killoch Colliery.
John Fowler 22888/1939 Dunaskin, 25th September 2016
There were four locos in the line of stock by the far end of the running line and were photographed through the window of the inspection saloon. First one was this 0-4-0 diesel mechanical from 1939, John Fowler works number 22888. This loco seems to have worked in many places before entering preservation in 1981.

Ruston Hornsby 284339/1950, Dunaskin, 25th September 2016
In the line of stock was this Ruston Horsnby loco. I think this one is 284339 of 1950
Ruston Hornsby 284339/1950 and Hunslet 3122/1944, Dunaskin, 25th September 2016
Next in line was a Hunslet 0-4-0 diesel mechanical, works number 3122 of 1944.

Andrew Barclay 2368/1955, Dunaskin, 25th September 2016
Near the end of the line was Andrew Barclay 2368 of 1955, formerly NCB Ayrshire District No 1.
The Scottish Industrial Railway Centre is based on the site of the Dalmellington Ironworks, which had an extensive internal railway. A few shots of some of the remaining buildings were taken, industrial archaeology being another of my interests. This shot shows one of the chimneys, the brickworks shed and the generator house behind the rolling stock.
Andrew Barclay 2260/1949, Dunaskin, 25th September 2016
NCB 23 again, this time with a chimney extension. I couldn't resist this rather silly shot.
