Nine and Three Quarters
St Paul's Church in Carlisle has some witty poster messages. This one, seen by my other half in 2012, appears to have been amended slightly!
Bad Spelling Writ larger
I imagine that we all make spelling mistakes, possibly due to not knowing how to spell a word or due to being a fat fingered typist (such as myself). A bit of proof reading is often handy, especially if a large sign for public display is involved. This is one of the larger errors in spelling lager I have seen, and it has been on the wall of this pub in Carlisle for several months.
Slow Red Squirrels
For some reason the red squirrels are asked to drive slowly on this minor road near Loweswater in Cumbria. Presumably the rest of us can just carry on at our normal speed.
With it being a transliteration from the Mandarin Chinese there are several ways to spell wonton, of which this is probably one. Although the meaning is clear, to me wanton means something completely different to the dumpling I know as wonton and this sign amused me.
Shall we dance?
So do we all have to dance towards the end of the day at this charity shop in Lymington.
Expecting heavy snow?
THis caused some amusement to me. Following a heavy (for Carlisle) snow fall in early 2010 I saw this van in the town centre. Perhaps anticipating a lot more snow.
Is it a Private Charter
I wonder if the next train at platform 3 in Carlisle is a private charter.
More ambiguity. THe meaning of the sign is, I am sure, quite obvious, but the lack of punctuation means that I read it as a request for livestock to close the gate. This was seen at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in 2006
In the event of a spelling failure, please ensure that next time proof reading takes place before printing. This was seen on a lift adjacent to the Millennium Bridge in Carlisle
Daleks heading for Citadel
Seen in a garden by the Courts in Carlisle and seemingly heading towards Citadel Station were these daleks.
Where are We
I don't normally photograph toilet doors, but this one took me back to the silly things I did as a child when writing addresses. This is a public toilet in Workington, CA14, Allerdale, West Cumbria etc etc.
Just a Mintue
Seen on the wall of the Penrith B & M Bargains store. What is a mintue and why does it only come out at night.
Word Heritage Site?
Apparently Hadrian's Wall is a Word Heritage Site, according to this planning application notice seen by me at Brunton on 3rd November 2007
Seen in a shop window in Carlisle in 2015 were these packets of a herbal tea formulated to help sliming, whatever that might be. Sounds horrible.
I bet that's the wrong way to spell Ladbrokes
A banner helping pedestrians find their way around the ongoing Metrolink works on Cross Street in Manchester. I wonder if Ladbrokes are upset at being left off the banner? 6th MArch 2016
